A proposed conceptualization of primary education social studies curriculum in light of social cohesion dimensions
 
The present study aimed at preparing a proposed conceptualization of primary education social studies curricula in light of social cohesion dimensions. For achieving this aim, an inventory of social cohesion dimensions was developed (belonging, inclusion, Recognition, participation and legitimacy).Four indicators were extracted for each dimension. The content of social studies curriculum taught to fourth, fifth and sixth primary grades were analyzed in light of those dimensions. A questionnaire was developed to investigate the role of social studies in developing social cohesion dimensions. The sample consisted of 50 social studies in primary schools in Minia city.
Results indicated a weakness in the coverage and development of social studies of social cohesion dimensions. A suggested conceptualization for developing social cohesion dimension in light of social studies curriculum was prepared. The suggested conceptualization included aims, content, activities, learning resources, evaluation techniques. The study recommended the necessity of developing social studies curriculum and its teaching& learning styles in primary schools in light of the suggested conceptualization in order to achieve its role in attaining social cohesion.
